- Butternut HF2V Vertical Antenna Review | Best 40 Meter Antenna. Here is my review of one of my favorite antennas. Simple to build, tune and use. For the price and the footprint, it is a killer DX antenna on 40 meters. Here are the part numbers for the various parts I show (part numbers from dxengineering.com):

If you're looking for a killer 40 meter antenna, you'll love the HF2V. I really love it an hope you'll find it amazing too. 73!
I have heard a lot of good things about the Butternut antennas. It sounds like it is putting out a good signal. Thank you for sharing Rich. I didn't know that DX Engineering sold radials for that antenna either. Thank you again Rich.
This one is a killer! Works awesome for stateside contacts AND distant contacts too. I didn't want to spend all the time making the radials, so I bought them. More expensive but it was nice to save all the time! Cheers Janice!
Good morning Rich. These videos are always informative. Listening during tea time. Gorgeous corn field in the back. Can you do a garden over top of the radials?
The radials are only an inch under the soil so you wouldn't be able to dig down far. Under sod? Yep. Under a garden? Maybe not so much. Thanks for watching Jen. Let me know how I can help you get your license!
As a newer ham I find your channel very valuable. The good, pause-able closeups are a nice reference, and your contesting success vouches for your gear preferences. I've been practicing CW with a friend. We're not using a learning method, just attempting conversations. How did you learn CW?
I learned CW 40+ years ago using a method that was on a cassette tape! It really clicked and then I got on the air (at about 5 wpm)! I used CW from Day One, since I was a Novice. I still use it and love it for contesting or DXing. When you want to meet on the air for a CW chat, let me know. We'll find a spot to meet. 73!
Loving the HAM radio content
Thanks for watching Cameron! I've got a few more in the works. I love sharing this great hobby! I appreciate your support!
Interesting review Rich. Have a great day!
Thanks for watching! It's a great antenna and one that will get your signal through to the other person! Have a great week!
Great review☺
Thank you Anne! I appreciate you stopping by to watch!
Great review 😊
Thanks Juani! It's a great antenna and I hope others will find it useful! Cheers!
😊👍
Thanks for the video. Quick question: what coax did you use to feed the butternut and how long a run for the coax?
I have 100 foot run of RG8 that I use to from the shack to the antenna. Let me know if you've got any other questions. Cheers!
